Patios & Driveways
We work with a multitude of stone products to give you the color, look, feel and finish that you're trying to accomplish. The patio is the heart of the garden and it's where you spend most of your time when you're outside.
Porcelain - A increasingly popular choice, porcelain gives you an incredibly crisp and modern finish that can't be achieved with other types of stone. It's not for everyone, but when it's done right and the rest of the landscaping is in keeping it looks amazing.
Natural Stone - natural stone slabs are tough and durable and can come in some beautiful colors. We lay all types of natural stone. Types of natural stone include:
- Indian sandstone
- Limestone
- Slate
- Granite
- Traditional Flagstones
Concrete - Concrete slabs are man made by pouring wet concrete into a mold. Concrete slabs have developed considerably and now come in many different colors and patterns and can actually create a really nice visual.
Driveways
We also work with a multitude of products to achieve various different styles of driveway. Although driveways fall under the "paving" umbrella, the look and finish of a driveway is dramatically different to that of a patio. The driveway is one of the main factors when we are talking about curb appeal and first impressions of a property.
Here are the Driveway types we can deliver:
- Block Paving
- Concrete imprint
- Tarmac
- Resin Driveways
- Decorative Gravel
What's The Process For Renewing A Patio Or Driveway?
The process for all paving starts off the same.
1. The Dig - All paving projects are started by marking out the size and shape of the desired area and reducing the soil. We call this the dig. The digging depth will vary on the quality of the ground but it's usually around 250mm for a patio with good ground and 350mm for a driveway . Further digging may be required if the conditions of the dig are not adequate enough.
2. - Drainage - Once the footprint of the paving has been reduced down to it's correct depth, it's time to put the drainage in. The drainage required will differ from project to project. Generally, ACO drains are installed at the lowest point of the driveway or patio and the water is redirected into an existing soak-away. If the original soak-away is not in the best condition, a new one maybe required.
3. Hardcore Type 1 Mot - The area is then filled with stone and raked around to meet the desired levels. A compaction plate is used consolidate the hardcore and create a firm base adequate enough to take vehicle traffic. If it's a resin or tarmac finish, another tarmac base layer will be installed.
4. Finishing - Once the sub base is complete it's ready to be "finished". This is the stage where block paving, slabs, resin, tarmac, concrete or stone will be crafted to create your desired finish.
Paving FAQ'S
hOW long dOES pAVING tYPICALLY tAKE?
The average patio job of under 100 square meters can be completed within 7-10. This includes digging it out, installing the hardcore, installing any drainage, laying the patio and pointing it in. Access and the type of slab will effect this as will the weather.
hOW mUCH dOES pAVING cOST?
It's impossible to price a job without actually seeing it as there are so many variables. You can expect to pay what you are quoted. I know this isn't necessarily an overly informative answer, but it's a real one. If you need a no hidden extra quote for your project, you can reach out at the top of the page.
wHEN CAN YOU WALK ON NEW PAVING?
Block paving can be walked on as soon as it has been completed. It's best to leave patio slabs for a few days to let the cement cure. If you do need to walk on them try and walk in the middle and not stand on any of the corners.
Retaining Walls & Steps
Depending on the gradient of your garden, your project may require retaining walls and steps. Even if it doesn't, you may want to create a "terrace" or put in some raised beds. We work with different styles to create retaining walls and steps:
Sleepers - Sleepers are commonly used as retainers and be used to create a functioning wall and looks great when done right.
Traditional Brick Retainers - We can use different styles of brick to create a retaining wall that compliments your paving choice.

Fencing
We can construct all styles of fencing to give your garden a stylish boundary and create privacy. We only use the highest quality of timber to ensure a quality job that lasts. Here are some of the more popular styles of fencing, although we are not confined to these styles and will happily look at any fencing job and any style.
Composite fencing - composite fencing is made from recycled materials and is becoming increasingly popular, as is composite decking. With many different styles and colors to choose from and longer lifespans - it's no surprise.
Panels - Standard fence panels are your go to fence. They're simple by nature but can be painted and decorated to create a nice finish.
Close-board Fencing - Close board fencing is a technique where vertical slats are nailed onto horizontal rails with an overlap. This method of fencing makes for a more detailed finish and looks great.
Picket Fencing - A more decorative style of fencing and usually to fence of areas without the need for privacy, such as front gardens or to subdivide back gardens for children/dogs.
